Table Of Contents

The original text that set the standard for introduction to art courses across the country, Art Fundamentals has guided generations of students through the essential elements of art as well as the rich and varied history of their uses. This eleventh edition has been carefully revised to expand and clarify concepts throughout the text, while adding new material on developing ideas, critical thinking, and time and motion.

Features:

New sections on developing ideas and critical thinking skills added to Chapter One encourage further personal investigation and stimulate the application of the concepts to studio projects. Throughout the text, concepts and explanations have been greatly expanded and improved.

Improved coverage of color balance provides students with a clearer explanation of how harmony or variety can be developed or controlled with various choices in colors and application. New illustrations of color harmonies from analogous to split-complement as applied to the same composition have been developed.

New chapter on Time and Motion (the fourth dimension) more deeply explores the works of art that incorporate film/video/multimedia.

Each chapter has been expanded to include both two- and three-dimensional examples, rather than isolating the 3D information in a separate chapter as in prior editions. New advancements in technology and applications of media are also incorporated throughout the text.

An enhanced timeline section entitled After Images adds visual learning with minimal text and provides side-by-side images for comparison and study into how art elements and ingredients are used.

Expanded Online Learning Center includes the exercises, self-guided tutorials, interactive examples, and student project ideas formerly on the Core Concepts CD in McGraw-Hill's MyArtStudio and features additional study resources, outlines, flashcards, and student quizzing.
