Common Grant Sections

grc logo

Although section headings may differ, most of the information required by funding agencies is consistent from application to application. The following sections are common to most grants:

1. Needs Assessment/Problem Statement Use this section to convince the funding agency your project is needed.

  • Always describe the county or community where your project will be located
  • Use recent statistics pertinent to the issues your project will address
2. Description of Project/Program Narrative Outline the specific components of your project, supported by time lines and management plans.

3. Goals and Objectives State your goals by giving broad statements of what you want to change or accomplish by the time the project is finished.

  • Outline the steps that must be accomplished to meet the goals
  • Set measurable objectives that are linked to your goals
4. Program Evaluation Describe a solid plan for assessing or measuring the change your project will bring.

5. Budget and Justification Look carefully at allowable expenses and be realistic about your project costs. Describe each line item in detail.
