On February 16, 2008, FOX Chicago featured a story on
its evening news broadcast covering the Jamestown Education
Classroom Giveaway and Global Visions Academy, one of the
contest winners in Chicago, IL. The following is a transcript
of this broadcast.
Global Visions Academy Wins Jamestown
Education Classroom Giveaway Contest; Will Receive Books
and Funds from McGraw-Hill
News Anchor:
A college prep school on the Chicago south side just won a
national contest. Global Visions Academy is one of six schools
to win the Jamestown Education Classroom Giveaway. It’s awarded
to schools that need a strong reading intervention program.
An English teacher at the Academy submitted an essay saying
the educational tools would get children closer to where
they need to be.
Latonya Austin - Principal:
We are preparing [our students] to embrace global enlightenment.
We are preparing them to be technologically astute.
News Anchor:
The top prize includes five thousand dollars worth of books
and other materials from the publisher McGraw-Hill.
