to life by featuring informational articles on topics that
are relevant and motivating for adolescent readers. Each
article answers the question, “How does it work?” Topics include MP3
players, cell phones, crime scene investigation, hybrid cards, and toilets! Units
cover one of the following topics: Everyday Things, Law, Health,
Food, Technology, or Nature.
Before-reading exercises include reading skill and vocabulary instruction
and activities to build background knowledge. Each article is accompanied
by margin support for reading skills, vocabulary, and comprehension assistance. All
units feature a chart, graph, or diagram for students to analyze, along with
after-reading activities to build vocabulary, comprehension, critical-thinking
and writing skills.
A comprehensive Teacher Guide with lesson plans, blackline masters, instructional
recommendations, and modifications for special populations accompanies the
series.
