Distance Learning: FAQs About PageOut®

Technology and the World Wide Web now enable instructors to teach beyond the walls of the classroom. With distance education, the classroom becomes accessible to more students. Distance education offers advanced learning to students who may be unable to attend class on regular schedules, or who are too far away. Instructors have the opportunity to teach these students in a non-traditional setting the necessary skills and knowledge to advance in their college and work careers. Students can attend class in your virtual classroom on the World Wide Web. With PageOut® and other distance education platforms, such as WebCT and Blackboard, you can create a course Web site that can be an extension of your classroom, or it can be the classroom itself.

Q: What is PageOut?
A: PageOut is a powerful but simple tool that allows you, the instructor, to create a virtual classroom. PageOut is McGraw-Hill's custom course Web site development tool that provides your own personal Web site, complete with a unique URL to give to your students. The PageOut course provided with the text is a complete course, which you can customize to suit your needs. You can hold regular class discussions in the Discussion Area or post lessons for each student to read at his or her own pace. The Discussion Area also allows you to talk with students online. Use one of the styles already provided, or upload your own graphics to design a site that is uniquely yours. Post a full syllabus, lecture notes, assignments, even tests. You can even customize quizzes and have them automatically graded and added to your gradebook.
