Business Communication at Work, 2nd Edition Glencoe Online

FAQs/Feedback: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I noticed a change in the formatting of the Online Exercises in the second edition of Business Communication at Work. Why was this change made?
A: The Internet is a forum that is still developing; changes on the Web occur daily. In order to ensure that the Web site links needed to perform the exercises are kept active, all URL's have been moved to the textbook Web site address, which will remain active while the book is still in print. When a link goes dead—a Web site closes—staff editors are able to replace it without requiring any changes to the textbook.

Q: Why were the Workplace Application features added to the new edition?
A: In order to address in more depth specific topics relevant to business communications in today's workplace. These real-world considerations—from the development of problem-solving and decision-making skills to the challenges all writers face in developing their messages—allow students to dig a little deeper into their understandings of the content..

Q: I found the Dictation Skills Checklist in the previous edition helpful in my Voice Recognition class. Is this topic still covered in the text?
A: The section on Dictation Techniques now appears in Appendix B in the end pages of the textbook.

Q: I'm realizing as I'm working on my letter-writing skills that my grammar and punctuation skills need improvement. What support do you provide?
A: Glencoe's Business Communication at Work Grammar Interactive, which can be found on the Student CD, is just what you are looking for to practice your skills with the English language. Concepts related to structure, punctuation, parts of speech, and other rules of grammar are reviewed and tested, with results available to show you how you have done. Also, for a quick reference guide to grammar, turn to Appendix A in the back of your text for tips to improve your language skills.

Q: What else is different about the second edition of Business Communication at Work?
A: Real-world topics in Workplace Applications with Thinking Critically questions, concept review in Checkpoint exercises, a revised Technology chapter, and a new chapter on Listening Skills are among the highlights of the new edition. In addition, the Web site has been revised and updated to offer more support through practice tests and interactive puzzles.
