One hundred and four men sailed from London in 1606 to settle in the New World. Not one woman was among them, and when they settled in Jamestown, their colony functioned for many years without women. But women were in the New World, and they belonged to the indigenous tribes of North America. Pocahontas was an Algonquian Indian princess who was instrumental in the success of Jamestown.
