Introduction
In this chapter you have studied the geography of the United States. As settlers moved in and built farms, towns, and cities, the landscape of this country changed. Recognizing the need to preserve wilderness and historical locations, the United States government established the National Park Service. Yellowstone National Park was the first national park in the world.

Start at the National Park Service home page.

Click on Find a Park.
Search for “Yellowstone”
Click on Yellowstone National Park (U.S. National Park System)

After you have read through the information and watched the videos, answer the following questions:

1. When was Yellowstone National Park established?

2. In what three states is Yellowstone National Park located?

3. Go to Nature and Science. Click on Old Faithful Virtual Visitor Center to the right of the screen. What is the average interval between eruptions of the Old Faithful geyser?

4. Again go to Nature and Science and watch the Respect Wildlife video. Why should you keep your distance from wild animals and never try to feed them?

5. Browse through the rest of the Yellowstone site. Then create a travel brochure of Yellowstone National Park. Remember to include a map, pictures, and information on famous sites. Keep in mind that visitors need to know about food, lodging, and other amenities.
