In this chapter you have read about Japan, North Korea, and South Korea. Throughout its long history the Korean Peninsula has been invaded many times. Each time the people of Korea emerge strong and able to rebuild their government and economy. South Korea is a beautiful, modern country. In this activity you will take a closer look at the geography, history, and culture of South Korea.

Scroll down to read the introduction.
Click on Geography in the menu on the left of the screen. Read the information.
Then click on Culture in the menu on the left of the screen. Scroll down to read the entire page.
Lastly, click on and read about Korean Food.

Use what you have learned to answer the following questions.

1. Name two principles of Confucianism on which Korean culture is based.

2. From what three seas do Koreans gather fish to eat?

3. What is the really traditional way that Koreans greet elders?

4. How is Korean cuisine unique from all other Asian cuisines?

5. Based on the information you learned on the Web site, create an information guide for a friend who is planning a trip to South Korea. What is the culture like there? How should a person greet someone? What is the food like? Include any information about the South Korean people and culture that will be important for your friend to know before visiting the country. Include pictures or drawings.
