Introduction
In this chapter you learned about the land, people, and economies of Brazil and the countries that surround it—Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. One of the most important and impressive landforms in Brazil is the Amazon rain forest. This huge forest is home to up to 30 percent of the animal and plant life on Earth. However, the Amazon is in danger—every day it grows smaller as trees are cut down to make room for roads and farmland, or to gain access to the resources contained within the rain forest. In this activity you will visit the Rainforest Action Network to learn more about this endangered region and about what you can do to help protect it.
