Chapter 3: Native Texans
"The Kiowa"

Introduction
In Chapter 3, you read about the many Native Americans who inhabited Texas. You learned that anthropologists have organized the Texas Native Americans into four major cultures: the Southeastern, Gulf, Pueblo, and Plains cultures. In this lesson, you will learn more about a Plains people—the Kiowa.

3.  Why did the Kiowa move all the time?


4.  What is the Kiowa legend about Bear Butte?


5.  Many Native Americans used storytelling to pass down the history of their people or to explain natural events. Write your own story about a local physical feature or naturally occurring event, such as rainbows or thunderstorms, or the origins of a certain tree or vegetable. Using standard grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation, write your story in the space below.
