Start at the Lone Star Junction Web site.

  • Under "The Archives," click on Events.
  • Now scroll down until you see "21 April 1836," and click on Battle of San Jacinto.
  • Read the information provided.

Use what you have learned to answer the following questions.

1.  Describe the location and surroundings of Houston's army on April 19, 1836.


2.  How far was Santa Anna's army from Houston's army on April 20, 1836?


3.  About how many men made up Houston's army at San Jacinto? About how many Mexican soldiers did the Texans face?


4.  What effect did the Texas victory at the Battle of San Jacinto have on United States history?


5.  Using the Web site information, write a poem about the Battle of San Jacinto. Use descriptive language to commemorate the heroic actions of the Texans who fought there. In the space below, transcribe your poem, which should be at least eight lines long.
