In this chapter you learned about the first Americans. As they spread across North and South America, these people developed unique cultures. Each culture developed political and economic systems, as well as art, language, and spiritual beliefs. On this Web site you will be able to read one tribe's legend of the origin of fire.

After you have read the story, answer the following questions.

5. Write a story using animals or other elements of nature (such as the wind or sun) to describe another way fire might have been brought to humankind.
