Chapter 5: The Citizen and the Community
"Volunteer Opportunities"

Introduction
In this chapter you read about the duties and responsibilities of citizenship. Those who volunteer to help in their own communities or in others help improve the quality of life for all. As you learned in this chapter, President George W. Bush has created a new organization called the USA Freedom Corps. This group includes the Peace Corps, Senior Corps, and AmeriCorps. It can also direct citizens to important volunteer efforts within their own communities. In this activity you will take a closer look at these volunteer organizations.
