Art Teacher
Description of Responsibilities
Art teachers share their artistic knowledge with students so that students can express themselves using art. Some art teachers help students learn about art history and art appreciation. Other art teachers work with students on projects such as painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. They help students use a wide variety of art materials, such as oil paints, watercolors, pens, pencils, palettes, knives, clay, cloth, or paper. Many art teachers work in their own studios outside the classroom.
Education, Training, and Professional
Qualifications
The education, training, and experience needed vary depending on the level of teaching involved. To teach at the college level, a postgraduate degree may be required, as well as some work experience as an artist or designer.
Other Considerations
Art teachers need to have good communication skills, enthusiasm, patience, and tact. In addition, an interest and ability in art and teaching are necessary.
