Display Designer

Description of Responsibilities
Display designers, or visual merchandisers, arrange merchandise in a way that is attractive to customers. Some work in retail stores, while others work in small businesses, trade shows, or restaurants. Display designers decorate storefronts and windows, basing their designs on current sales or promotions, seasonal themes, and events or holidays. In addition, they offer ideas to help sell the products.

Education, Training, and Professional Qualifications
A college degree in presentation design, interior decorating, or display is strongly recommended. A portfolio with examples of artwork is usually required.

Other Considerations
Display designers often have to work weekends and evenings. In larger stores, display designers usually work as part of a team.
