Furniture Designer

Description of Responsibilities
Furniture designers plan the appearance of sofas, chairs, tables, desks, bookcases, and a variety of other furniture pieces. In doing so, they must consider the latest trends in furniture, production costs, and suitable materials. Additionally, they must create furniture that is visually pleasing as well as functional. Furniture designers work closely with interior designers and carpenters.

Education, Training, and Professional Qualifications
Furniture designers need experience in both design and carpentry. Their understanding of how furniture fits together helps them make effective, useful design plans.

Other Considerations
Drawing is a large component of furniture design; designers must have drawing skills to sketch the furniture they plan to create.
