Graphic Designer

Description of Responsibilities
Graphic designers create images for specific commercial or promotional needs. They plan how words and images are presented in printed and digital materials. Computers are used to produce this type of art. Newspapers, magazines, book publishers, and advertising agencies employ graphic artists. Some of the materials that graphic artists create include magazines, books, posters, pamphlets, newspapers, promotional products, letterheads, greeting cards, CD covers, and invitations.

Education, Training, and Professional Qualifications
Graphic designers usually need a degree in graphic design. Experience in art, design, advertising, marketing, publishing, or printing is helpful.

Other Considerations
Graphic designers need to be skilled in computer design and committed to learning about new or improved design software as it becomes available. They need to enjoy working with computers and have excellent communication skills.
