Videographer

Description of Responsibilities
Videographers use video cameras to make documentaries, create visual presentations for corporations and other institutions, and record special events or celebrations such as weddings and anniversaries. To prepare for each job, they should familiarize themselves with the locations that will be used. When recording an event, videographers must present their material in a suitable manner for video, select the appropriate video camera, and use their knowledge of the natural movement of cameras. They may work for themselves or for a video company.

Education, Training, and Professional Qualifications
A college education may be required for some positions. A bachelor's degree that includes business courses provides a well-rounded education. Courses in camera operation and videography are very helpful. Employers always look for people who have excellent skills in operating cameras, as well as technical expertise, experience, and creativity.

Other Considerations
Videographers must have extensive knowledge in operating a video camera and be willing to work at various hours. Some videographers do their own editing.
