PICTURE THIS
When you view a web site, you encounter more than words and
information. Most sites are designed to catch your eye and
hold your attention, as well as to inform you. There are as
many different ways to design a web site as there are ways
to paint a picture. Both techniques rely on the elements and
principles of art. The elements of art--line, shape or form,
texture, color, and space--are important factors in the design
and look of a web site. The designer may also think about
principles of art such as balance, emphasis, harmony, variety,
and proportion when creating or placing images and text on
the screen. As viewers, our responses to what we see may also
be based on our understanding of these elements and principles.
The more artistic and carefully designed the site, the more
likely we are to appreciate and understand the information
presented.

| Using your
understanding of the elements and principles of art, critique
the degree of success of the web sites listed below on
your Artist's Passport. First, click on the button that
will print out your worksheet. Print out three copies.
Then, click on and browse through the sites. Select three
for your evaluation. Answer the question on your worksheet
in detail. Then, design a web page of your very own. |
