Although most small businesses fail during their first year, some are successful. Mr. Sylvan Goldman’s business was one of the lucky ones. He invented the shopping cart after seeing women carrying their groceries. Mr. Goldman would notice that they would stop shopping when they got tired of carrying everything. So, in the 1930s he designed the first shopping cart, patented the invention and amassed a fortune of over $200 million.
