Chapter 11

Elements of Design

Many things come together to make a good Web page. All design specialists know the importance of the layout, background, white space, clear text, and useful graphics. Let's look at each of these.

First, how is the page going to be set up? What will the background be? Take a look at the following two pages, and decide which one is easier on the eye.

What do you think about these two pages? Did you notice the backgrounds? How about the amount of white space?

These items all play a part in how we view a Web site. It is also important to consider how you organize your graphics – are they placed randomly around the page or organized logically? Are they labeled or are you unable to figure out what they are? And is there a clear reason for having them? Here are two more samples for you to compare.
