COMMUNICATION: Global Exchanges
Writing is important for communicating. If you can write well, you can be in touch with people from around the world. If you'd like to e-mail other students who live in other parts of the world, you can join ePALS online. This is an online classroom community that connects more than 2.5 million students and teachers from more than 65,000 classrooms in 182 countries.

REPORTING: Online Newspapers
You've practiced writing an article that would be great for your school paper. You may want to look at how many other school newspapers look online. Two schools that have interesting papers are The City Honors School in Buffalo, New York and Connersville High School in Fayette, Indiana.

If you're interested in producing an online newspaper for your school, you might want to visit a Web site designed specifically for that purpose. At Highwired, you can learn how to create one and look at examples of school newspapers too.

IN-DEPTH REPORTING: Other Media
Many people get their news from television. And many television news shows have online versions. Every war, major event and weather disaster is online and in great detail almost the minute it happens. Watch a television news story on your local channel. Then check out their Web site to see if more information is online. Then check out the Web sites of national news programs like CNN or PBS to see if the item appears and how it's covered.
