Hands-On-Health
Now for some bad news and some good news. The bad news is that the number of teens in the United States who are overweight has doubled in the past 25 years. The good news is that the number of teens who have discovered the health benefits of regular physical activity has also risen dramatically. Where do you fit in? Are you among the fitness-savvy teens who make some form of exercise, sport, or other vigorous activity an ongoing part of their lifestyle?

Imagine that the administration of your school came to you and asked you to design a student fitness center. Where would you begin? In this activity, you and several classmates will find out. Your plan should include a budget for fitness equipment that specifically serves the needs of teens as well as a proposed layout for the facility. To get started, click the button that prints out your worksheet. Then visit the sites identified under Health Links below. Read "Physical Fitness: The Basics" to understand more about fitness. You might also want to check out some of the eating plans and recipes at the "Health Promotion and Wellness" site. Now you're ready to explore the Fitness Zone resources to plan your own fitness center. Use the worksheet to help you sort and categorize the information you find.
