If you were asked to guess the leading cause of death among people in this country between the ages of 15 and 20, what would you say? If your answer was "traffic accidents," you would be right. Close to 6,300 teens and young adults died last year while driving or riding in a car. Another 1,000 teens were killed in accidents involving bicycles, skateboards, and other non-motor vehicles. Such accidents are a tragedy that becomes that much greater when you consider that virtually all of these deaths are preventable.

	In consideration of the tragic loss represented by statistics like those above, some states and communities sponsor an annual Vehicle Safety Awareness Week. Such events are intended to raise the consciousness of people within the community. Here is a chance for your class to do your part by holding a safety fair that includes pamphlets and a multimedia presentation. First, click on the button that prints out your worksheet. Then visit the Web sites listed below under Health Links, following the instructions on your worksheet. Collect information and resources from the sites. Plan how you will set up displays, tables, and demonstrations for your schoolwide fair. At the end of the fair, survey students to find out what they learned.
