Hands-On-Health
The health risks of tobacco, alcohol, or
other drugs is shrouded in myth and misconception. No group
is more victimized by these myths than teens. Because adolescence
is a time of growth and self-discovery, some teens allow themselves
to believe the lies and half-truths about these substances
popularized by peers or the media. Some accept as true the
totally false assertions that, for example, smoking and drinking
make you appear more mature, or that steroids make you stronger
and more athletic. In reality, tobacco, alcohol, and other
drugs can--and do--kill. One behavior that is a sure sign
of maturity is developing an awareness of and concern for
the health and well-being of those around you.
