Health Quests

Know Your Body Systems

Objectives

After completing this activity, students should be able to

  • identify the systems of the human body.
  • describe the functions of the body systems.
  • present body system information in a clear and organized research report.

Motivator

Ask students to name body functions or processes that they control. Then ask them to name body functions or processes that occur without any real effort on their part. Which body systems are responsible for these functions? Which body parts aid in the process? Have students discuss their answers as a group.

Suggestion

Have students form small discussion groups. Ask them to exchange research reports, and allow time for students to read one or two of their classmates' reports. Then have them discuss one another's work. Was the report interesting and informative? Was the information presented in a clear and organized format? Did students learn anything new from reading the report? If so, what? If not, what additional information might have been included?
