The Body Human

Hands-On-Health

If you have ever looked under the hood of a car, you probably know that its engine is made up of many interconnected systems. The human body is organized in much the same way. Like a car's internal combustion engine, the body runs on fuel, which is passed through and filtered by a special "fuel system." The body has a "cooling system" like a car's that helps regulate our temperature during warm weather. The body even has a solid chassis that permits us to stand tall and move.

Try This: Do you know the actual names of the body's systems? Here is your chance to find out. First, click on the button that will print out your worksheet. Next, go to the Web site listed below under Health Links. Select one of the eight body systems shown by clicking on the icon. Use the information you find to complete the body system profile on the worksheet.
