Water, Water Everywhere

Hands-On-Health

Although we humans are mainly land dwellers, water is essential to our existence. Our bodies, in fact, are two-thirds water! As precious a resource as water is, you would expect that we have worked hard to protect the earth's supply of water. This is not the case, however. Pollution--the dumping of natural and chemical wastes--has poisoned the planet's rivers, lakes, streams, and oceans. People are not the only inhabitants of earth to pay the price. Other creatures in the environment have suffered as well.

Try This: How exactly does water pollution upset the fragile balance in nature? You are about to find out. First, click on the button that will print out your worksheet. Next, visit the two Web sites listed below under Health Links. The one labeled "Water Cycle Animation" will give you a bird's-eye view of how our water supply ordinarily renews itself. After downloading a supply list and instructions for making your own water cycle model, complete your worksheet.
