Health Quests
Allergies and AsthmaWhat's
the Difference?
Objectives
After completing this activity,
students should be able to
- identify causes, symptoms, and treatments of allergies
and asthma.
- discuss similarities and differences between allergies
and asthma.
- present information gathered from the Web sites in an
accurate and organized manner.
Motivator Ask
for volunteers to relate their own experiences with allergies
or asthma. What substances most often cause an allergic reaction
or trigger an asthma attack? What are the symptoms? What treatment
methods do students use?
Suggestion
Have students gather in small groups
to compare their charts. Did all of the charts contain the
same information? What did students learn from creating their
chart? Have them discuss the connection between allergies
and asthma. How are the two conditions similar? How are they
different? Ask students to hang their charts in the classroom
when they are finished.
