Control Your Breathing

ControlWays to control your breathing when you are stressed:

If you cannot take a big breath and relax yourself try the following:

  1. Blow ALL the air out of your lungs as if you are blowing candles out on a large birthday cake. Once air is forced out of your lungs, you will have room to take a big breath.

    Or ...

  2. Count to four on the inhale, hold for four counts, exhale for four, hold for four. A very relaxing, conscious way to get control of your breath.
  3. If you are hyperventilating, you may feel dizzy. You have taken in too much oxygen because you are "panting." Hold your breath for a count of four.
