F.
Scott Fitzgerald Centenary
This site, hosted by the University of South Carolina,
was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 100th anniversary
of Fitzgerald's birth. Begin with the Preface link
and make your way through the site. Choose the most interesting
tidbits you encounter and share them with the class in the
form of an oral presentation on "Fitzgerald and the Jazz Age."
The
1920s
This site about the 1920s includes information on everything
from historical events to games and fads. Browse the site,
following the links that interest you. In the Web
Links Activity Log, make a list of things you would want
to do and people you would want to meet if you lived in the
"Roaring 20s."
Voices
from the Thirties
When the Great Depression struck, the federal government stepped
in to create jobs for the unemployed, under the auspices of
the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Even unemployed writers
were given jobs, as described on this Library of Congress
site. Read about the Federal Writers' Project, including some
samples of the writers' work, and then write an editorial
about its importance.
