Waiting for the Barbarians
by Constantine P. Cavafy

Ithaca: A Tribute to Constantine P. Cavafy
Hosted by a Greek scholar, this site offers links in both Greek and English. You can read poems by Cavafy and peruse an impressive biography. You can also view images of the author. After browsing the site, write your own tribute to Constantine P. Cavafy in the form of an obituary that could have appeared in literary journals following his death in 1933.

The Barbarians
This Web site provides information, illustrations, and links about the nomadic peoples called barbarians. Click History of Barbarians to learn about the everyday life and religion of these peoples, and to read about famous barbarians. Imagine that you have been hired to create a theme restaurant called Barbarians. With a small group of classmates, draw up a plan for the restaurant. What costumes will the staff wear? What food will be served? What decorations will be on the wall? After deciding, make a presentation to the class about your restaurant. Then have the other students vote on whether or not they would want to visit your establishment.
