The Living Edens: Kamchatka
This PBS Online site explores the mysteries of the remote Kamchatka region of Siberia, the setting for the folktale "Porcupine and the Sky Mirror." Learn about the real creatures that inhabit this secluded, icy region of the world by clicking on the Kamchatka Creatures link. With a partner, create a series of posters that list animals from Kamchatka. Be sure to include drawings of the animals on your posters.

The God Gióng
Read the Vietnamese legend at this site and think about the ways in which the baby Gióng is like the boy in "The Fly." How do both characters meet the challenges before them? What is unexpected, or surprising, about each character? In what major ways do the boy and Gióng differ? Share your responses in a class discussion.
