Poetry

Sound Devices are techniques that poets use to create a sense of rhythm or to emphasize particular sounds in their work. Onomatopoeia, alliteration, assonance, consonance, and rhyme are all examples of sound devices.

In the "Sounds Like Poetry" activity, you'll get a chance to show off your poetry expertise. So pump up the volume and imagine how smart you're going to sound throwing around terms like onomatopoeia and alliteration!

To learn more about poetry before you begin, refer to the Poetry Genre Focus in your textbook.
