The diagrams below show the answers. In the first example, one square must be constructed inside another square. In the second example, we must first determine how to divide a space into 11 areas using 4 lines. Then by evaluating the algebraic equations, we find that the only negative expression is (20 - 11x). Therefore, one vertical line must be drawn between the digits of 27 and of 49. The next three lines must separate 14 and (16 - x) into two areas. The last line can be determined by trial and error.
