Strategies and Hints

  1. The four arcs are parts of circles with the same radius.

  2. The 8 outside points of the star are equally spaced around the outside circle. The 8 inside points are equally spaced around the inner circle. The 8 points of the inner star lie on line segments that divide the circles into 16 equal parts.

  3. The hypotenuse is the radius of the circles used to make the arcs of the eight-point star.

Solution

Using the circles in Part 4, above, the student should erase lines until only the shaded figure below remains.
