You're Making What? |
In this activity, you will write a story using a unit of measure created by your group. Imagine that you are a lab scientist performing an experiment. For example, you might be building something or making a formula for creating a drink that will make you grow taller. You need to write a recipe for the drink. (Any ingredients are acceptable. Try to be creative.) Your experiment will be completed in a unique lab where you cannot use standard units of measure. For example, cups and tablespoons do not exist in your lab. Your challenge is to create your own unit of measure for the lab.
| For your new unit of measure, you must have: |
| (1) |
a name for your unit of measure (for example, boscos) |
| (2) |
a conversion rate. (for example, 1 cup = 24 boscos) |
Once you have created the unit of measure, you will write your story. Your story needs to include your reasons for performing the experiment and at least five conversions to your unit. These five conversions must be different, though. You cannot convert boscos to cups five times. Try to make your story the most creative. When all groups have finished their stories, share them with the class and check the conversions.
