Use groups of 3.
Materials: Masking tape, index cards, counters
Model Decimals

Copy onto cards the fractions and phrases listed below. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile. Make four sets of cards containing the digits 0-9, one digit per card. On the floor, use masking tape to make two place-value charts showing four places. Place counters on the middle lines to separate the charts into ones and tens and tenths and hundredths.

Two group members each take two sets of digit cards. The third group member selects a card from the pile and reads the fraction or decimal in words. The other group members then try to be the first to model the decimal by arranging the digit cards on one of the place-value charts.

Trade roles and continue in the same manner until all of the decimals have been modeled.
