Materials: Centimeter grid paper
It's All Proportional

On grid paper, draw a rectangle that is 4 cm long and 3 cm wide. Find the perimeter and the area. Then draw a rectangle that is twice as long and twice as wide as your original rectangle. Find the perimeter and the area of the second rectangle. Finally, draw a rectangle whose length and width are three times those of the original rectangle. Find the perimeter and area of the third rectangle.

Try to be the first pair to find the perimeters and areas of rectangles that are 10, 20, and 50 times larger than your original rectangle. (Hint: Look for a pattern.)
