Putting Actions into Words

Each student in the class should construct a geometric figure that has parallel lines. On a separate sheet of paper, the student should write down the directions for the construction of the figure. Next, exchange directions with another group. Each student will now use the directions to draw the figure on another sheet of paper.

When all students have finished, return both the directions and the new drawings to the appropriate group. Compare each new drawing with the original figure. Do the drawings match? Why or why not? Discuss criteria for good directions.
