Working as a group, plan a trip anywhere in the United States or Canada. Plan to stop in at least four cities. Next, measure the distance from the town that you live in to your first stop. Calculate and record the number of miles. Measure the distance from your first stop to your second stop. Record the number of miles. Continue until you have reached your final stop. Then, record the distance from your final stop back to your town.

Now select a rate of speed for your car. Find how long your trip will take you by using the rate you selected. For example, suppose that your car will travel at 60 miles per hour. At this rate, you know that every hour you will drive 60 miles. Using this information, find how long it will take to complete your trip. Can you use a division problem to make finding the time for the trip easier? If so, what is the division problem? Finally, try to find a way to decrease your travel time. Compare your trip and strategies to decrease time with other groups.
