Fraction Action

Copy onto cards the fractions shown below, one per card. Decide which group member will be the dealer. The dealer shuffles the cards and deals five cards to each group member, including him- or herself. The dealer places the remaining cards face down in a pile.

The group member to the dealer's right turns over the top card. Each group member then removes from his or her hand all of the cards with fractions that are equivalent to the fraction on the card. The partner who flipped over the card in the pile takes all the equivalent fractions and puts them aside. Each group member replaces the cards he or she has discarded with cards from the pile. Continue in the same way, taking turns flipping over a card until there are no more cards in the original pile. Using the cards you have collected, try to find equivalent fractions for the fractions on the cards in your hand at the end of the game. Award yourself 1 point for each equivalent fraction card you collected and subtract 2 points for each card remaining in your hand.
