Each partner begins with a sheet of notebook paper and some patty paper. Begin by drawing a triangle on the notebook paper. Label it triangle A. Use patty paper to translate triangle A in any direction and by any measurement you choose. Labe this triangle B. Record the direction and distance you translated the triangle on a separate sheet of paper. Finally, use patty paper to reflect triangle B over one of the lines on your notebook paper. Label this triangle C. Record the direction of your reflection and the location of the line of reflection.
After you have drawn triangles A, B, and C, exchange your paper with your partner. Now, look at your partner's drawing. Write down a set of instructions that can be used to move triangle A to triangle B and finally to triangle C. Check your answer with your partner. Repeat this activity several more times by adding more translations or reflections and by using different shapes.
