Boxing Data

As a class, brainstorm ideas for data that would be best represented in box-and-whisker plots. Try to keep the topics related to each other. For example, you could choose your main topic to be sports or the Olympic Games of 2000. Each group of 2 will have a subtopic. For the Olympic Games of 2000 example, one group might choose swimming while another group might choose baseball. Each group then has to find data on their topic that could be represented in a box-and-whisker plot.

Draw your box-and-whisker plot on a piece of poster board using markers. Include three questions that could be answered using your plot. Exchange original data lists and posters with another group and check each other's work.

Create a bulletin board display using all the posters. You may want to use the main topic as the title to your display and put up a different group's poster each week.
