In this activity, you will be testing the traceability of different networks. Begin by constructing a rectangle. Connect the opposite vertices. Your final drawing should be a rectangle with an X in the middle of it (see figure A below). Use your conjecture found in the Hands-On Lab on page 200 of your textbook to determine if the network is traceable. Explain why the network is or is not traceable. Next, draw a triangle on the top of the rectangle like the picture below (see figure B below). Is this network traceable? Why or why not?

Next, draw a new network that has at least 8 line segments and is not traceable. Explain why it is not traceable. Finally, change your network to make it traceable. Explain the changes that you made and why the network is now traceable.

When all groups are done, share your traceable networks with the class. See how many students can trace your network.
