Use groups of 2.
Materials: 4 index cards, scissors, number cube, dot paper
Pick a Trapezoid

Cut each index card in half. Then sketch 10 different trapezoids, one on each of the halves, labeling the lengths of the bases and the height of each trapezoid. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile on the table.

Player 1 turns over the top card and then rolls the number cube. If the number rolled is even, player 1 finds the area of the trapezoid using the formula , where h is the height of the trapezoid and a and b are the lengths of the bases. If the number rolled is odd, player 1 draws the trapezoid on his or her grid paper and calculates the area using Pick's method. Whichever method player 1 rolls to find the area, player 2 uses the other method to check their answer. Player 1 scores one point if he or she can correctly compute the area of the trapezoid using the assigned method. If player 1's answer is incorrect, player 2 receives one point.

Play continues with player 2 turning over the next card and rolling the number cube. The player with the most points after all cards have been used wins.
