Use groups of 2.
Materials: Straightedge, graphing paper
|
Circle Search |
Each group should find 5 circular objects, either at home or school. Some examples could include cans or a round table. Make a table that shows the circumference and diameter of each object. Write a description of your method for measuring the circumference and diameter of each object.
Next, make a scatter plot of the data. Plot the diameter as x and the circumference as y. Describe the graph. Draw a line so that half of the points are above it and half are below it. For every 1-unit change in x of this line, about how many units of change are there in y? What does your graph show? Compare your graph with the graphs of other groups.
