Materials: Algebra tiles constructed in Hands-On Lab 13-1A, number cube labeled 1 through 6
Productive Models

Write each of the expressions below on an index card. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile on the table.

Expressions to write on cards:

2(x + 1)

3(x + 4)

x(x + 2)

2(x + 4)

x(x + 4)

2(3x + 1)

3(x + 2)

3(3x + 2)

x(x + 3)

2(4x + 1)

The first player draws a card from the pile and then uses the algebra tiles constructed in the Hands-On Lab on page 560 to model the product. Player 2 checks the model and awards one point for a correct answer. Next, player 1 rolls the number cube. The number rolled is the value of x. Player 1 then uses this value and their model to find the value of the product. For example:

Example

Player 1 is awarded 1 point for finding the correct value of the expression. Player 2 then draws a card and follows the same procedure.

Play until all cards have been used. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
