Group Activity Cards

Patterns
and Functions

Number of players: 2
Materials: Index cards, grid paper

It's a Hit

Copy onto cards the function rules shown below, one per card. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile. Write the function rules on a sheet of paper so that you can refer to them.

Each partner selects a card and graphs the function shown. (Remember, to graph a function, make a function table to find ordered pairs.) Then partners take turns trying to guess which function the other partner graphed by calling out ordered pairs. If the ordered pair names a point on the line you graphed, say "Hit." If the ordered pair does not name a point on the line you graphed, say "Miss." Try to be the first to guess which function your partner graphed. (Hint: You should be able to guess the function after you have guessed any two points on the line.)
